Our Commitment to Privacy
Pinboard GPT is built with privacy as a core principle. Your data is yours, stored locally on your device, and never transmitted to external servers or third parties.
What Data We Collect
Pinboard GPT recognizes two separate collection models:
- Local / browser-managed data (Free & Pro): For Free users (up to 10 pins) and Pro users (when using browser sync), all pin data remains under your control — stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB) or encrypted in your browser's sync service (Chrome Sync / Firefox Sync). We do not collect or transmit this data to our servers for Free or Pro users by default.
- Optional cloud collection (Premium, opt-in): If you explicitly opt into Premium cloud sync, we will securely store the following data on our encrypted backend to enable cross-browser sync and larger storage limits:
- ChatGPT message content that you choose to pin
- Custom names and tags you add to pins
- URLs of ChatGPT conversations for navigation
- Timestamps of when pins are created
By default, new users are on the Free tier and their data remains local. Pro users who enable browser sync still keep data managed by the browser provider — we only receive or store pin data if you explicitly enable Premium cloud sync.
What We Don't Do
- ❌ No analytics or tracking
- ❌ No data transmission to external servers by default
- ❌ No third-party SDKs for data collection
- ❌ No cookies for tracking (only browser-native storage):
- ❌ No advertising or hidden monetization
Although the extension requires no account for basic use, signing in is required when you choose to purchase Pro/Premium or enable cloud sync. Authentication is optional and used only to:
- Authorize purchases and associate licenses with your account (we use industry-standard OAuth providers such as Google for login).
- Enable browser sync (Pro) or optional encrypted cloud sync (Premium) when you explicitly opt in.
- Store minimal profile data (email and display name) and secure tokens required for licensing and sync — we do not collect or store additional personal data without your consent.
In short: basic use remains account-free and local-first. Accounts and authentication are only introduced when you opt into paid features or cross-device sync. We strive to minimize data collection and to make what is stored and why fully transparent.
