Frequently Asked Questions
How do I pin a message?
There are three ways to pin messages:
- Hover Method: Hover over any ChatGPT message and click the "Pin" button
- Right-Click: Select text, right-click, choose "Pin selection to Pinboard GPT"
- Quick Pin: Use the "Pin Message" button in the bottom-right corner of ChatGPT
Where is my data stored?
Your data storage depends on your plan:
- Free (up to 10 pins): Pins are stored locally in your browser's IndexedDB and do not leave your device.
- Pro: Pins can be synced across your Chrome devices using Chrome Sync when you sign in.
- Premium: Optional cloud sync is available for cross-browser sync and larger storage limits.
Can I export my pins?
Yes! Click the extension icon, then use the Export button to download all your pins as a JSON file. You can import them later or share with others.
The pin button doesn't appear. What should I do?
Try these steps:
- Refresh the ChatGPT page
- Make sure the extension is enabled in your browser
- Check that you're on chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com
- Try disabling other ChatGPT-related extensions temporarily
How do I search my pins?
Click the extension icon to open your pinboard. Use the search box to filter pins by content, name, or tags. The search is instant and searches across all fields.
Can I sync pins across devices?
Yes — depending on your plan:
- Free users can export/import pins manually between devices.
- Pro users can enable Chrome Sync to keep pins in sync across Chrome browsers.
- Premium will offer cloud sync for cross-browser syncing (optional).
Does this work with ChatGPT Plus?
Yes! Pinboard GPT works with both free and Plus accounts. It works with all ChatGPT models including GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo.
